Sara Callanan is a contemporary exponent of the style of dramatic singing made famous by Rosa Ponselle. Her lecture/recital, based on the career and reprertoire of Ms. Ponselle, recreates the environment and spectacular dramatic technique of this early twentieth-century singer. |
Ms. Callanan has been greatly aided in this process by dramatic baritone and master teacher Jason Stearns, currently with the United States Army Chorale and a frequent performer in opera companies in the Northeast, including the New York City Opera.
Sara is an accomplished vocalist, pianist, and flutist. She has performed in many venues, under the name 'Solos by Sara,' including such places as churches, recital halls and outdoor festivals for a variety of events: weddings, church services, festivals etc.
Along with presenting her own performances, Sara has an array of voice and piano students and vocal groups whom she has conducted for many years.
Centered in Reston, Virginia, Sara is always looking for more pupils and opportunities to serenade. Her eclectic styles include, but are not limited to jazz, pop, broadway and opera.
