From the President’s Desk - Wayne A. Shifflett

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all members of the RBC! This is the time of the year to reflect on all of the many activities that we enjoyed this past year and give thanks to those members who contributed so much of their personal time and efforts. I want to thank Kay for her tireless efforts in finding outstanding programs and Ken for his attention to details and his impeccable work in putting together the monthly newsletter. Other members needing recognition include 'Chuck' for all his work on the seed sales program and Tom for his leadership in providing interesting and productive field trips. The efforts of these four members should not be minimized since they have all provided outstanding services to our Club.

This is also the time of the year to initiate plans for your new birding agenda for the new year. Are you going to begin a new 'Yard List' or will it be a new Bird List for the year?  Most birders have a life list and they are always eager to add new birds to that list. Are you going to make plans for a long birding trip?  How many birds are on your life list?  What is the most exciting bird you saw this past year? One thing about birds and birding is that there are many ways to enjoy our feathered friends. Our enjoyment is only limited by our imagination. I know I will be adding to my life list since I have made plans to travel to South America and enjoy some of the tropical species that may have eluded me on my trips to Mexico. No matter your plans, one thing is certain that if it involves birds it will be a challenge and very enjoyable. I am sure that this year in the RBC, there will be many challenges but it will also be very enjoyable.

Treasurer's Report - Steve White

The Rockingham Bird Club enters the New Year with a very healthy financial bottom line of $19,236.78, of which the checking account currently holds $8,034.44, while the balance in our savings account stands at $11,202.34.  This puts us in a good position to continue in 2008 with our past strong support for the very fine local and national charities, organizations, and research programs that share our mission of fostering the awareness, protection, and enjoyment of birds.
