PROGRAM: Lance and Jill Morrow will have our program this month. They are going to talk about the raptor/observation station that they established this past fall near New Market. By popular demand they will bring the falcon with them. Their talks are so interesting and informative. Don't miss it. We will meet at Bravo's at 5:15 PM for dinner. Please call me by 3:00 PM the day of the meeting. Don't forget our June meeting will be a picnic at Grand Caverns. Dan Cristol will be our guest speaker.

May Field Trips Tuesday, May 1 - Bear Trap (forest road)– Ken Hinkle will lead this trip which usually yields Prairie Warblers and Indigo Buntings. Hooded, Kentucky and Bay-breasted Warblers and Yellow-breasted Chats have also been found on this exciting walk. Meet at 7:00 AM in the Bridgewater Methodist Church parking lot across from Hardees just off Rt. 42. Bring drinks and snacks. We should return between 12 and 1 o'clock. Thursday, May 3 - South River Picnic/Pocosin Trail Shenandoah National Park – Tom Mizell is taking us to the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains to look for spring migrants. Bring a lunch. Last year we ate lunch at the Big Meadows Picnic area and while eating were visited by a Scarlet Tanager (orange variant). Meet at 7:30 AM in the Kohls parking lot off Rt. 33 east. Call Tom at 828-6059 if you would like to go along. Thursday, May 10 - Seneca Rocks – Ken Hinkle is taking us on the annual trip to Seneca Rocks and through the surrounding countryside to see lots of interesting bird species. Scarlet Tanagers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Bobolinks, possibly 5 Vireos, a variety of warblers, several flycatchers and Chats might be found. Bring a lunch. Meet Ken at 6:30 AM in Waterman Square (closed Food Lion) parking lot Rt. 33 west. This is an all day trip. Call Ken at 828-3782 or kencora@verizon.net if you are going. Monday, May 14 – Reddish Knob – Harold Jones will lead this trip which should be great for warblers and other recent spring arrivals. Meet at 8:30 AM in the Bridgewater Methodist Church parking lot. Call Harold at 828-3192 for more details. Friday, May 18 - Hillandale Park – Meet at the playground parking lot at 8:30 AM for our monthly walk in the park. Tuesday, May 22 – Whip-poor-wills – Ken Hinkle will take us on an evening excursion west of Union Springs Dam to listen for and see the Whip-poor-wills and possibly hear a Chuck-will's widow.
