From the President’s Desk - Wayne A. Shifflett

This is the best time of the year when we can all go into the field and participate in one of our favorite activities of 'watching birds'. However this is different than any other time of the year because the numbers of birds seen and the different species observed go into a data base system that can contribute to long term population trends in bird populations. The annual Christmas Bird Count sponsored by the National Audubon Society is one of the longest continuous bird counts on record. The first count was in 1900, and today there are more than 2000 counts all across the United States and Canada and South to Central America. Naturally the goal is to compete and see what count can actually observe the most species possible.  Some counts such as Alaska may number in the single digits while other may record more than 300 species. The Panama Canal Count generally records approximately 325 species and leads all other counts.  In the United States the Counts in Texas and California generally lead all other States in observing the most species.  So if you want to contribute to the knowledge of birds and have an outstanding day of observing birds, I strongly encourage you to sign up and be a contributing member of the upcoming Christmas Bird Count sponsored by the RBC.

Get Your Hot Peanuts Here -- Chuck Kahler

OK so they are not hot, but I still have 5 bags of peanuts left, along with 3 millets, 1 safflower. Sooooooo please help me get them out of my basement. Either call me (432-1847) or E-mail (cbkahler@verizon.net ) and we will work out getting them to you. We have sold $12,300 worth of seed, which is over 23,000 pounds. Steve White our treasurer will have to give us a report on what our bottom line is after all of the bills are paid.  Again, Ralph and I would like to thank everyone for all the help in making for another successful seed sale.
